The start of a new year is often filled with resolutions: hitting the gym more often, cooking with fresh ingredients, staying in touch with friends, and so on. But people like us? We can’t help but chuckle at all that.

We’d rather focus on what truly matters: gaming. And this year, the gaming world is gearing up to deliver once again, offering a mix of incredible freedom and, of course, the agony of choice. That’s why we’ve put together a list of 10 of the most anticipated games of 2025 that absolutely deserve a spot on your wishlist.

(No, Silk Song isn’t on this list. We don’t want to risk jinxing its release, so we’ll just pretend we’re not secretly hoping it finally drops this year.)

Mafia: The Old Country

Genre: Action-Adventure | Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox Series | Release: 2025

Mafia: The Old Country is shaping up to be a must-have title for all nostalgia lovers. This sequel to the iconic franchise takes you back more than 100 years into the past.

Set on the picturesque island of Sicily, you won’t be enjoying a luxurious vacation – instead, you’ll experience the harsh life of a penniless mine worker. Fate soon draws you into the shady dealings of the fledgling Italian Mafia, where you’ll get your hands dirty with extortion, smuggling, and robberies.

In this deep, linear narrative, you’ll have a front-row seat to the birth of the Mafia as we know it today.

Subnautica 2

Genre: Open Water Survival | Platform: PC, Xbox | Release: 2025

With all that sunshine and tragedy, a refreshing dive comes just in time. Subnautica 2 hands you an oxygen tank and swim fins once again, plunging you into the depths of an alien ocean.

You’ll scour underwater caves and coral reefs for resources to build a base and ensure your survival. As you upgrade your tools, you’ll venture deeper and deeper into this mysterious underwater world. For the first time in the series, you won’t have to paddle through the waves alone – you can now explore the depths with friends in multiplayer mode.

But the story doesn’t take a backseat either. There’s a reason you’ve been sent to this hostile environment, but uncovering it will be up to you.

InZOI

Genre: Life-Sim | Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | Release: March 28, 2025

For those who are tired of The Sims, a silver lining is on the horizon at the end of March. InZOI aims to be the new star in the life-simulation world, and it’s delivered some promising images over the past few months.

You’ll create your own characters, the Zois, with their very own personalities, and set them loose in a vibrant city that boasts extreme attention to detail – at least in the trailers we’ve seen so far. This world won’t just be thrown at you without explanation; instead, you’ll be able to actively shape it. AI is expected to promote dynamic NPC behavior, making the world even more unpredictable.

If everything works as promised, we might just be looking at a true Sims killer in the making.

Hades 2

Genre: Roguelite-RPG | Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | Release: 2025

Yes, technically you can already play Hades 2 in Early Access. But if you’re one of those who prefer to buy a finished product, make sure to mark the release date in your calendar once more details are announced.

This time, you step into the shoes of the young witch Melinoë, who slashes her way through the Greek mythological underworld. The Titan Cronos has sent his minions after you, and you’ll enter battle armed with various weapons and blessed by the gods.

Every time you die, you start over in Erebos, but each death enriches your experience. You’ll unlock new abilities, items, and resources, increasing your chances of success with each attempt. Add to that some amazing music and plenty of lore, and you’ve got a compelling journey ahead.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Genre: Fantasy-RPG | Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | Release: 2025

The premise of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 already holds immense potential: Once a year, a mysterious artist appears, wielding her brush over a monolith. Each time, she leaves behind a number, and everyone whose age matches that number vanishes into thin air.

The population can no longer tolerate this and repeatedly sends expeditions toward the artist to put an end to her unholy deeds. You’re part of one such expedition, embarking on a journey filled with turn-based battles, real-time elements, and stunning environments rendered in crisp, high-quality graphics.

Anyone who loves Final Fantasy and the Tales of-series shouldn’t miss this one.

Slay the Spire 2 (Early Access)

Genre: Roguelike-Deckbuilder | Platform: PC | Release: 2025

Since 2019, deck builders have had to measure up to Slay the Spire, and rightly so. With an impressive 97% positive reviews, it's clear why it’s been so highly praised – and it’s no surprise that Mega Crit is set to deliver another... mega hit in 2025.

Slay the Spire 2 allows you to once again build your own deck filled with powerful abilities to unleash on bizarre creatures. You'll journey through endless dungeons, attempting to climb the spire, but if you run out of steam, you’ll start all over from the bottom.

The sequel expands on the original's deck-building system with new classes and sleek graphical upgrades, including animations and effects. The world keeps evolving, even in card games.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Genre: Ego-Shooter | Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | Release: 2025

Doom has a surprise in store for 2025. Instead of a far-off planet in typical sci-fi fashion, this time we’ll be opening the gates of Hell in the medieval homeland, hence the subtitle “The Dark Ages”.

Origin stories are all the rage this year, as we’ve already seen with Mafia, and now we’re getting to experience the shaky beginnings of the first Slayer. In this slightly alternate medieval version of Doom, we’ll try to save our kingdom from sinking into hellfire.

As always, we'll be armed with an array of firearms and accompanied by thunderous metal basslines, as we blast our way through the biggest demons.

Ghost of Yotei

Genre: Action-Adventure | Platform: PlayStation | Release: 2025

A bit more subtle is Ghost of Yotei, the successor to the PlayStation hit Ghost of Tsushima. But don’t worry, you don’t need to replay the spiritual predecessor to get up to speed, as Ghost of Yotei tells its own unique story.

This time, the journey takes you to the Japanese island of Hokkaido, where Mount Yotei looms over the landscape. In 1603, you follow your destiny as the female warrior Atsu, armed with two razor-sharp blades and a shamisen that provides comfort during solitary moments. You’ll explore the open world, which features vast grasslands, snowy tundra, and unexpected dangers, either on foot or atop your loyal steed.

Little Nightmares 3

Genre: Horror-Adventure | Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | Release: 2025

No wishlist is complete without a solid horror title. After being thoroughly spooked by Little Nightmares 1 and 2, the third installment is finally coming in 2025, promising to take things to a whole new level.

You can choose to face the horrors alone, as in previous games, or drag a friend along into the nightmare. For the first time, you'll sneak through the dark corridors of a spine-chilling world as the protagonists Low and Alone.

By the way, Little Nightmares 3 isn’t being put together by the original developers. They’ve parted ways with Bandai Namco and are now working on their own horror game that strikes a similar tone. Reanimal is being developed under THQ and looks just as eerie as the official Little Nightmares sequel.

Grand Theft Auto 6 (Fall 2025)

Genre: Action | Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | Release: Fall 2025

All these games are highly likely to be released before Grand Theft Auto 6, as the release in the fall is not really set in stone. Officially, though, Rockstar still mentions this year when referring to their latest project.

For the first time in GTA history, a female protagonist takes center stage. Lucia is freshly released from prison, and she finds herself in a modern Vice City, which she, alongside her gangster boyfriend Jason, will make their own. What exactly awaits you remains a mystery, as the details are being traded as hot as the last parking spot during rush hour in Miami.

But it's likely that there will be plenty of shooting, drifting, and swearing, while licensed music pumps through the speakers, making the chaos even more exhilarating.
